Write Your Abortion Story

By now you know that the Supreme Court just overturned Roe v Wade.
Protests are happening all over the country, & folks are plotting ways to take action.
I’ve spent the day thinking about what I can do. How I can help.
As a writer, one of the first things I think about at times like these is STORY.

I believe story is one of the tools we have to effect change, to make statements about society, to spread knowledge and truth.
In this case, to counter the conservative narrative around abortion.

I had an abortion when I was 18. I have never regretted it.
My essay about the experience, “1994”, is forthcoming in an anthology edited by Aracelis Girmay.
I needed to write this story. And maybe you need to write yours too.

I believe in the power of story. That’s why I do the work I do. Why I write what I write. Why I created the Writing Our Lives Workshop.
And it’s why I’m creating this class.
Had an abortion? Want to write your story about it?
Or maybe you had a miscarriage and had to have a D&C.
Or maybe it was an ectopic pregnancy.
I created this class to help you write YOUR story.
I will lead you through various writing exercises & prompts to get you underway.

Do you have to be a writer to take this class? No.

This class is for folks who:

  • are writers
  • are not writers
  • are published
  • are not published
